"Fine Art Photography" : Artist's Statement (courtesy Mark Slouka's "Quitting the Paint Factory"):
"Idleness is not just a psychological necessity, requisite to the construction of a complete human being; it constitutes as well a kind of political space, a space as necessary to the workings of an actual democracy as, say, a free press. How does it do this? By allowing us time to figure out who we are, and what we believe; by allowing us time to consider what is unjust, and what we might do about it. By giving the inner life (in whose precincts we are most ourselves) its due. Which is precisely what makes idleness dangerous."

Many of you have written, begging to know who my influences and inspirations are. You are too kind. And that list is too long. But here are some names if it is names you require: Fritz Goro, Gordon Matta-Clark, Duane Michals, Barbara Kruger, Max Ernst, Edward Burne-Jones.

In terms of what captures my imagination and holds my interest, I present a second abridged list: urban decay, abandoned structures, weathered facades, weathered anything, doorways, vivid colors, muted colors, neon, distressed paint, mud, flora.
